Mike Powers is an education professional and Web-radio enthusiast. Experience: Mike's interest in radio began when he started listening to short-wave broadcasts while studying communications engineering in college. Two decades later, as his work assignments have found him more involved with computer support, he finds that his world-wide listening has shifted to the Web. Recently retired from the Coast Guard, Mike mixed assignments on icebreakers with computer and communications work, pioneering use of the Internet within the Coast Guard. (Please see "A Walk on the Wired Side" and "The 1994 Arctic Ocean Section; The First Scientific Crossing of the Arctic Ocean") From June of 1998 through July of 2001, Mike was the About Radio Guide, covering both Radio and Internet Radio. From 2001 through 2003, he was an Electronics Instructor at ITT Technical Institute, Grand Rapids, MI, where he focused on communications electronics. He then served as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at Michigan Technological University's School of Technology. In June of 2006, he returned to ITT Technical Institute at the Canton, MI campus in the position of Dean of Academic Affairs. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT and a Masters of Science of Electronics Engineering majoring in Communications Electronics from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA. From Mike Powers: "I scour the Internet for new and interesting sites on Radio, Internet Radio, and Wireless. While building and maintaining a comprehensive listing of active sites, with the Internet rapidly changing and new Radio stations appearing and disappearing constantly, I welcome your assistance in identifying new and interesting stations and sites on and about Radio!" |
